Jeff Hay, Applied Optical Physicist

Dr. Jeff Hay, CEO

Jeff Hay is CEO of RDI Technologies which he founded in 2013. Jeff’s background is in Applied Optical Physics. Before founding RDI, Jeff held a Research Scientist position at the University of Louisville where he developed much of the technology RDI uses today. His roles focused on data acquisition, signal processing, software development, and data analysis. In addition to these technical roles, Jeff was responsible for overseeing the commercialization aspect of the grants he was involved in. While at the University Jeff patented a method to measure motions remotely with the use of video camera.

In 2013 Jeff left the University to start RDI to bring the technology he invented out of the University and into commercial markets. He took on the role of CEO and licensed the technology from the University of Louisville. In addition to this he has worked with sub-licensees to assist in commercialization of the technology within their organizations and continues to develop new technologies at RDI. Jeff has a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Louisville.

Bob Wilson, Technology Business Development Expert

Bob Wilson, President

His experience includes over 35 years of opportunities ranging from Fortune 500 management positions, taking a startup to IPO, and creating entrepreneur development incubators and support networks.

With CSI, a software and instrumentation company, he held senior level sales, marketing, and general manager positions guiding the 500+ employee company through the IPO process and subsequent sale to Emerson Electric.  He held senior level management positions with other Fortune 500 companies in the technology based industry.

After leaving CSI, he developed and ran a high tech incubator program that worked with over 250 startup companies.  Through the CEG he personally handled 4 mergers and acquisitions, developed and delivered 50+ entrepreneurial training classes to over 1000 entrepreneurs and performed interim management roles and advisory roles for new startups to take them from idea to funded and sustainable operations.  He built Accelerator programs in 3 different states for non-profit organizations, has held board positions for numerous entrepreneurial ventures, and supported a government funded program that improves technology transfer and commercialization efforts for research projects coming from government labs and Universities.

Jenna Johnson, Financial Expertise & Market Analysis

Jenna Johns, COO

Jenna Johns joined RDI in early 2015 after seeing the opportunities this technology had to change lives.  After years of looking for a monitor for her daughter to no avail, she had finally found something in RDI’s technology that would not only make a positive impact on her life but on the life of other new mothers.  She brings with her a passion for this technology and a strong financial and operational background. She started out her career working for two Fortune 500 companies where her responsibilities included finance, accounting, and government contract management. She graduated from the University of Tennessee Magna Cum Laude with a BS degree in Finance, International Business, and Logistics.

For the 4 years prior to joining RDI she had been actively working with entrepreneurial startup company management teams conducting market studies and building business plans and financial models.  She has also engaged with the NIHS commercialization team in conducting research for industry assessments and project based market assessments.  Jenna has also reviewed numerous business plans and financial models for angel and venture capital firms.

Mark Slemp, Software Development Director

Mark Slemp, Director of Software Development

Mark graduated from the University of Tennessee Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1995 and then a Master of Science in 1997.

Prior to joining RDI, he worked for CSI (later acquired by Emerson) for over 20 years in their software development organization.    Mark served various roles including hands-on development of Windows-based applications, technical lead of projects, managing a team of developers, and also serving as the primary UX designer.   The software that he developed involved the vibration analysis of rotating industrial machinery with a focus on visualizing the data for analysis by the end user.

Dan Nower, Mechanical Engineer and Vice President of Business Development

Dan Nower, P.E., Vice President, Business Development

Dan has 30+ years of field service, product development and machine design experience with all of the machinery health technologies. As a young engineer, Dan started and operated multiple monitoring programs at the government facilities in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He moved on to CSI, a software and instrumentation company, as a Development Engineer and championed several award winning products that lead to multiple successful product lines. In his last few years at Emerson Process Management, Dan developed business opportunities and machine monitoring techniques targeted to the Metals & Mining global markets. As the Vice President of Business Development at RDI Technologies he is challenged with developing the most promising business opportunities, and there are many to choose from. Dan graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla (now Missouri S&T), with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Joe Vrba, Principal Software Engineer

Joe Vrba is a talented, versatile computer programmer and systems engineer.  He has nearly 40 years of software development experience covering the full range from writing specialized drivers and hardware diagnostics to creation of advanced knowledge-based systems.  His doctorate in experimental physics, coupled with his strong mathematical background allows him to develop effective solutions to the most difficult problems.

Prior to joining RDI, Joe worked for almost 20 years designing and developing software for Emerson/CSI.  During that time, he was involved with nearly every aspect of Emerson’s Machinery Health Manager™ family of tools for analysis of vibration and other aspects of industrial machinery.  His accomplishments there included design and development of the shared software library for data plotting and analysis, the complete infrared analysis system, the high speed, high volume transient vibration data acquisition and management subsystem and maintenance and extension of libraries to support complex vibration analysis.  Further back, Joe’s history includes other small startups that did well and were acquired by large firms.  That is how he includes time with Westinghouse and General Electric in his resume’.

Joe earned a B.A. in Physics with honors from Hiram College, Hiram, OH in 1974 and his Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN in 1980.  He is a certified ISO Category III and ANST Level 2B Vibration Analyst.
